BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (WTNH)– Two crossing guards were hit by a car in Bridgeport on Tuesday morning.

Bridgeport Police say crossing guards Leonard Hunter and Idalen Vargas were both struck by a car on Park Avenue and North Avenue.

According to police, the female driver, 47-year-old Larissa Fountain, had just dropped off her daughter at school when she apparently blacked out at the wheel. Both crossing guards were dragged for at least 25 feet after they were hit.

Hunter suffered two broken legs and a brain bleed. He is currently in surgery and is listed in critical condition. Vargas suffered minor injuries and is listed in stable condition.

The driver stayed on scene but it’s unclear if she’ll face any charges.

North Avenue was closed for the crash but has since reopened to traffic.

The accident remains under investigation.
