HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH)– Republican lawmakers say they have the solution to the state budget stalemate and it includes no tax increases of any kind. It comes as Democratic lawmakers say they are united on their plan which includes increases to the Restaurant Tax and the Hospital Tax.

“We are ready, willing and able to put forth a budget on Thursday up on the board for a vote,” said Sen. Len Fasano (R-North Haven) the Republican Senate President Pro tem. The united House and Senate Republicans on Tuesday were calling the the Democrats’ bluff in a political game of chicken by offering what they say is a fully vetted, balanced budget plan.

House Republican Leader Rep. Themis Klarides (R-Derby) declaring,  “Does not have a Sales Tax increase. Does not have a  hospital tax increase. Does not have an income tax increase and does not put teacher pensions on to cities and towns.”

They say they can continue to fund core services like those for the physically and intellectually disabled.  In most cases, increase local education funding to the cities and towns and do it all by making serious structural changes like cutting pension costs after the current labor deal expires in ten years.  Their plan also includes a spending cap, a bonding cap, and mandate relief for cities and towns to help keep local Property Taxes in check.

Fasano adding,  “We also believe that if that budget is going to be called, we expect that there’d be a number of Democrats who  would look favorably upon our budget.”

In a hastily called news conference, Governor Malloy said he would look at the GOP plan and said this about the Democrats’ latest plan, “I’m hopeful but there’s no white smoke, nothing done but we’ll see where this leads in the coming 48 hours I guess.”

Republicans say if the Democrats bring their plan up for a vote they will do the same.  It could be a very long night on Thursday
