1 person killed, 1 seriously injured after being hit by train in Thompson

THOMPSON, Conn. (WTNH)– One person was killed and another was seriously injured after being struck by a train in Thompson.

State Police say just before 1:30 a.m., troopers responded to the area of Buckley Hill Road and River Street for the report of pedestrians being struck by a train.

Upon arrival, troopers found that 28-year-old Brittany Lafleche and 26-year-old Morgan Nordby, both of Thomspon, had been hit by the train. It’s unclear why they were on the tracks.

Police say Nordby was found down an embankment and pronounced dead on scene.

According to police, Lafleche was conscious and alert but suffering from life-threatening injuries. She was taken to UMass Hospital for treatment.

Train service was stopped for the investigation but resumed when the scene was cleared at around 6:30 a.m.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner responded to the scene and will conduct a post-mortem to determine the cause and manner of death. Providence and Worcester Railroad representatives also responded.

The incident remain under investigation.
