DANBURY, Conn. (WTNH)– Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton wants Amazon to build its second global headquarters in Danbury.
Mayor Boughton said, “We think we’re the right fit because we’re close to New York City, we’ve got close to 700,000 people that live in our Metro area. We have a great Mayor here who has a great sense of humor.”
The Mayor is using humor to try to get Amazon’s attention. He said “we are embedding this video in the Seattle, Washington area using a geo-targeting tool so employees of Amazon will see it. We’re hoping Jeff Bezos will see it. And we are going to keep bugging him in my face will keep popping up on his computer.”
The company plans on investing over 5 billion dollars in construction and operation of the new facility. Amazon said the second headquarters will create tens of thousands of jobs. He says Danbury is a great fit for Amazon.
Mayor Boughton told NEWS8, “Whatever your tastes are, if you want to live in a more urbanized environment, you can live on Main Street and if you want to live in a suburban environment you can do that, or if you want to own a farm you can do that here as well.” He said Danbury is the gateway to New England with a transportation system already in place.
Mayor Boughton added, “We’ve got rail, we’ve got an airport here in Danbury, as well as an extensive highway system so we are in and we can deliver the product and would certainly be a great partner for them.” He hopes his out-of-the-box approach will give Danbury the edge.
