A common mistake on the playground could send children to the emergency department

(ABC News) – Nothing makes a toddler go whee like the playground slide.

But one common mistake by parents is sending more young kids to the emergency room than you may think.

Researchers presenting at the American Academy of Pediatrics meeting this week, looking at emergency department records, finding more than three hundred thousand slide injuries in young children over a 12 year period.

The reason? Parents sliding down with kids in their laps.

Most affected — 12 TO 23 month olds, with most kids ending up with a broken leg.

The size and weight of the adult played a huge role in the risk of injury.

So before you join your kid on the slide, remember that some playground equipment is kids only for good reason!
