Two men arrested for illegal killing of bears in Wilton

WILTON, Conn. (WTNH) — Two men are facing charges in Wilton after Environmental Conservation Police say were involved in the illegal killing of two bears.

According to EnCon Police, 28-year-old Antonio Lio of Wilton and 33-year-old Daniel Moran of Norwalk were observed exiting the woods. According to officials, Lio was carrying a bear skin, head, and paws in his backpack.

Police say Lio stated he shot a bear as it walked under his tree stand before shooting and killing a second bear that approached him as he checked the first bear.

Officials say Lio then admitted to texting Moran for assistance in retrieving the bears.

According to police, the two then skinned the first bear, cutting off its paws and head for a trophy mount.

Both individuals were arrested. Lio was charged with two counts of Illegal Taking of Black Bear and Negligent Hunting in the 4th Degree. He was released on a $5,000 non-surety bond.

Moran was charged with Conspiracy to Commit Illegal Taking of Black Bear. He was released on a $3,000 non-surety bond.

Both men are scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 28.
