PD: Man hit in the head with gun during Hamden armed robbery

HAMDEN, Conn. (WTNH)– A man was injured during an armed robbery while walking in Hamden on Monday night.

Police say at around 9 p.m., officers responded to the area of Fairview Avenue and Fitch Street to the report of an armed street robbery.

An investigation revealed that a 23-year-old man was walking eastbound on Arch Street when he was approached by another man who ripped the chain off of his neck, while displaying a firearm.

The armed suspect then stole the victim’s cell phone before a fight ensued. The victim was then struck in the head several times with the firearm, suffering injuries to his head and eye.

The suspect later fled the scene on foot. Police describe the suspect as a black male who is 5’9″ tall and weighs about 175 lbs. The suspect was also wearing a black hooded sweatshirt.

The incident remains under investigation. Police ask anyone with information to contact them at (203) 230-4040.
