That’s not an insult.
Kevin the turkey is strutting his stuff around town these days and everywhere he goes, people are taking pictures and posting them on social media. A Facebook page for Kevin the turkey has more than 3,000 followers and residents are flocking to places like The Old Wethersfield Store to get their hands on Kevin the turkey cups, glasses, and chocolate-covered pretzels.
“I bought a Kevin coffee mug and then, of course, later on you need the Kevin wine glass,” said Valina Carpenter, a customer in the store.
The owner says Kevin has been very good for business. When this celebrity makes an appearance right on Main Street every now and then, he may stop traffic. But he isn’t ruffling too many feathers. In fact, News 8 saw one man run into the street to make sure Kevin could cross to the other side. Drivers stopped to wave at Kevin or say hi to Kevin. The town is gobbling this up.
“He’s become a celebrity in town,” said one resident, who stopped to take a picture of the turkey downtown during lunch hour.
“This is great for the town,” Valina said. “It really has brought the community together.”
Now, if you’re reading this and wondering why all of the fuss over a turkey? Well, another shopper may have a simple answer for you: “Because it’s fun,” she said.
