WATERFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — The lights were out along Route 85 in Waterford this morning.

At 10:30a.m. Wednesday morning, Eversource reported 308 customers without power in Waterford. 57 were without power in Montville, and a handful of others in nearby towns.

“The wind was been incredible,” said Andre Patterson works at the Oakdell Motel on the other side of Waterford where power was knocked out to Route 85 along with Cross Road, Parkway North, and Parkway South.

Several businesses were affected along the busy routes.

“It just really shut us down for a little bit,” said Patterson. “No one really complained everyone was okay. A lot of people were probably still asleep.”

At about 8am police closed Vauxhall Street Extension between Hunts Brook Road and the Montville town line after wires fell in the area.

Soon after that another tree fell on Hunts Brook Road which remained closed until late afternoon. Police did not let anyone down that road because it was just too dangerous. When the tree came down it affected power lines extending to at least ten poles.

“I had to pick up a lot of stuff this morning that had blown around debris and stuff so it’s just crazy,” said Patterson. “You know weather is weather there’s really nothing we can do about it.”

Eversource crews worked throughout the area to restore power and were able to get most people back on line by the end of the day.

“It is what it is. It happens you know,” said Patterson. “There’s nothing we can do about it. Just look forward to it coming back and you keep it moving.”
