WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — A West Hartford man is facing several charges after police say he killed a kitten as well as a pet rat, and severely injured another kitten with a BB gun Wednesday morning.

Just before 10:25 a.m., West Hartford police responded to an apartment on Sky View Drive on a report that a man had just killed two kittens inside the apartment. When officers arrived on the scene, they discovered that one kitten was dead, and another severely injured.

It was also reported to officers that the same person shot and killed a pet rat in the same apartment a few days earlier, as well as assaulted his girlfriend.

Officers said the deceased kitten had been struck by a television remote control, while the injured kitten was hit and shot with a BB gun. The injured kitten was taken to a vet for treatment. The pet rat was also shot with a BB gun.

Police took 22-year-old Corey McCall into custody, charging him with multiple crimes, including multiple counts of cruelty to animals, disorderly conduct, and assault. He was held on a $150,000 bond.
