HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — A Hartford company is hand-crafting all natural liqueurs, and their Wild Moon line has exploded in popularity.
About five and a half years ago, Lelaneia Dubay became gluten free and chemically intolerant to all of the additives in the alcohol. That caused her to stop drinking. After about 6 months, that just wasn’t acceptable to her, because life is better with a cocktail.
Lelaneia and her husband Tom, decided to create a lavender liqueur concoction without the gluten, and it was a hit! Lelaneia pulls the unique flavor profiles from her past profession as a landscape designer. Basically, it’s taking the plants and flowers that she loves so much and preserving them in alcohol, so we can have a cocktail.
Now, Hartford Flavor Company produces seven different “Wild Moon” all-natural liqueurs.
They don’t distill at Hartford Flavor Company. They call themselves an infusionary. The liqueurs are all hand-crafted by Connecticut artisans. The crisp, botanical taste offers something for every season.
Cucumber, lime and lavender were the summer flavors. We’re coming into cranberry season now; and birch and chai are winter flavors.
The popular “Hartford Mule” is made up of one ounce of Wild Moon lavender with 1.5 ounces of vodka. It’s topped off with some nice Ginger Beer.
Usually, there’s chemical suspenders and artificial flavors and colors. The artisans at Hartford Flavor Company have basically taken out all of those items, so that you’re not going to get a hangover headache.
You can experience Wild Moon Liqueurs in the tasting room at the Hartford Flavor Company in Hartford. Hours of operation are Fridays 4 – 7 pm, Saturdays 1 – 6 pm, and Sundays 2 – 5 pm.
