New Haven gang member sentenced to 80 years for 2011 murder

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH)–A man who shot and killed another man in New Haven in 2011 has been sentenced to 80 years in prison.

30-year-old Jermaine Harris shot and killed Daryl McIver on McIVer’s 20th birthday back in July 2011. The shooting, which took place on Ella T. Grasso Boulevard, was gang-related, according to police.

Witnesses said McIver ambushed Harris and shot him in the back. He’s also accused of being involved in a shooting on Arch Street and another one on Hamilton Street, as well as two other shootings.

Harris was given 60 years on the murder charge, and 20 years for robbery.
