Eli’s Buddy Run 5k held Sunday morning

ORANGE, Conn. (WTNH) — The annual Eli’s Buddy Run 5k was held in Orange on Sunday morning.

About 200 runners and walkers took to the street for the event held by Eli’s and Best Buddies CT.

The not-for-profit works with a base of volunteers to foster one-on-one friendships, integrated employment and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

“We started with colleges and universities and then we went into middle high schools and middle schools and now we have buddy citizens,” explained Founder of Best Buddies CT Mike Ricci. “We probably have more than 2,000 participants in the program in the state of Connecticut.

Best Buddies CT has been around since 1989.

Yale University and Southern Connecticut State University were the first schools to participate in the program here in the state.
