Man walks cross-country for gun violence awareness

(WTNH)–A man walked from Chicago to Washington, D.C. in an effort to call attention to gun violence. Demetrius Nash started his 700-mile journey on August 4th, and finally made it to the U.S. Capitol on Monday morning.

Nash says too many young black men are dying from street violence.

“What it comes down to is poverty-stricken communities have the same problems–gun violence, police violence, domestic violence. People are hurting all over the country,” Nash said.

Nash spent eight years in federal prison on drug charges. He calls for replacing guns with hammers to teach more inner city youth skills for building trades.
