(WTNH)– We’ve all heard the phrase “shop local.” But, even in a good economy, it can be tough for mom and pop stores to keep up. We are stretching your dollar with what experts say businesses can do to increase their traffic
We know, in order for our state’s economy to thrive, our local businesses need to do well. But Pablo Arenas, who consults business says there are some mistakes many mom and pop shops are still making.
“The biggest mistake is assuming that you pay for a website and that it’s going to get you search results,” said Arenas.
Launching a website is just the start. You want to be found when people search your product or service. In order for that to happen, you have to keep it current so search engines like google know you’re still relevant.
“Google indexes your website every 7 days. So you have between that. Figure 4 times a month that you go in and do something. That’s why people build blogs into their websites,” said Arenas.
Another great way to build traffic is by encouraging customers or clients to leave a review. It keeps your website current and gives customers an idea of who liked your business and who didn’t.
And make sure your main site is compatible with a smart phone. Sites launched a long time again may need to re-work them.
“So you have a website that you built 10 years ago. It looks pretty but it doesn’t work pretty, it’s not going to work,” said Arenas.
Lastly, remember who your demo is and where they spend their time. You may way to build a presence on Facebook, Instagram or SnapChat.
