DEEP investigating underground oil leak in Berlin

BERLIN, Conn. (WTNH) — The Department of Energy and Protection (DEEP) is investigating an underground oil leak in Berlin.

According to DEEP, oil is seeping out into Belcher Brook near 432 Toll Gate Road.

DEEP says while there is not a large amount of oil coming out, the concern is that it is happening near homes.

A contractor has placed brooms and absorbent pads to contain and capture the oil.

DEEP says it will bring in an excavator to dig in the area and find the source of the oil.

Toll Gate Road has been closed at this time.
