Pedestrian seriously hurt after being hit by car in Canaan

CANAAN, Conn. (WTNH)– A teen was seriously injured after being hit by a car in Canaan on Monday afternoon.

State Police say at around 3:30 p.m., a Jeep Cherokee was heading north on Route 7, approaching the intersection of Beebe Hill Road, when a pedestrian ran into the crosswalk without stopping to check for traffic.

The front of the Jeep then struck the left side of the pedestrian, later identified as 17-year-old Dartanian Oyenadell, of Cornwall Bridge.

Oyenadell was taken to Sharon Hospital before being transferred by Life Star helicopter to Hartford Hospital. Police say he sustained serious but not life threatening injuries.

The driver of the Jeep, 31-year-old Jason Marshall, of Barkhamsted, was not injured.

The accident remains under investigation.
