(WTNH)–A woman accused of killing the wife of her current husband while dressed as a clown and delivering balloons will face the death penalty.
Shelia Keen-Warren was in court in West Palm Beach on Wednesday after being arrested in a 27-year-old cold case.
The murder happened in Washington County, Virginia, where prosecutors said in 1990, Keen-Warren shot her lover’s wife, Marlene Warren, while wearing a clown costume and carrying flowers and balloons.
Keen-Warren later married the victim’s husband in 2002.
Police identified the now 54-year-old as a suspect at the time, but never made an arrest. Detectives said new DNA testing matched Keen-Warren’s hair with DNA found at the scene.
“Today we filed a notice of intent to seek the death penalty in this case. We have the victim’s thoughts and memories in mind,” said State Attorney Dave Aronberg.
Keen-Warren’s attorney says she strongly denies killing her husband’s former wife.
