Event aimed at raising domestic violence awareness held Wednesday

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

On Wednesday, an event was held to raise awareness and remember those in Connecticut who lost their lives over the last year to domestic violence.

“The Sound of Hope” was held at the Long Wharf Pier in New Haven.

“Domestic violence is at the heart of troubled, disheartened children,” explained New Haven Mayor Toni Harp. “It is at the heart of broken spirits and quashed ambitions of adults. It is the cause of a disproportionate amount of violence, other urban crime and homicides.”

Along with Mayor Harp, the New Haven Police Department attended the event.
