Pedestrian fatally struck by car in New Hartford

NEW HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — State Police are investigating after a pedestrian was fatally hit by a vehicle in New Hartford in the early hours of Sunday morning.

State Police report that they responded to reports of a car vs pedestrian crash at the intersection of Rt. 202 and Maple Hollow Road in New Hartford at approximately 12:31 a.m.

It was found that the vehicle traveling west on Rt. 202 had struck Michael Ropiak in the roadway. He later succumbed to his injuries at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital.

The vehicle’s driver was identified as Ruth Riesbeck, 23 of Athens, Ohio.

The accident remains under investigation.
