Stranded boater rescued in Norwalk

NORWALK, Conn. (WTNH) — A stranded boater was rescued midday Sunday through a combined effort by the Norwalk Fire Department, the U.S. Coast Guard, and a Suffolk County Marine Unit.

Officials say a call came in around 11:40 a.m. reporting a stranded person on Greens Ledge Lighthouse.

Norwalk Fire was able to locate the person who they say is a 56-year-old man from Huntington, N.Y. Officials say he went kayaking from Oyster Bay, N.Y. around 5 p.m. last evening and began to take on water. The kayaker drifted toward the Connecticut shore and became stranded at the lighthouse where he spent the night until his rescue on Sunday.

The victim is alert and was able to speak about the incident to officials. He was treated for hypothermia.
