Milford man arrested on DUI charges after hit and run

MILFORD, Conn. (WTNH)– A Milford man was arrested on drunk driving charges after a hit and run crash Friday evening.

Police say at around 5:40 p.m., officers responded to Anderson Avenue near Quirk Road for a car accident where the offending vehicle fled the scene.

An investigation led to police arresting 54-year-old Wayne Kelly. Kelly had been stopped by an off-duty state police trooper further down Anderson Avenue due to the extensive damage to his vehicle.

Police say Kelly then provided a breath sample which showed he had an elevated blood alcohol content. He was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, evading responsibility, failure to drive right, and failure to renew license.

Kelly was held on a $500 bond and will appear in court November 2.
