NORWALK, Conn. (WTNH) – Today we’re Cruisin’ Connecticut to Norwalk, home of Letizia’s Pizza.
The original recipe was created by “Uncle Joe” Letizia as a cook in the Army during WWI. Now the passion for pizza has been passed down through the generations to his grandson, Dennis Letizia.
We’ve been here for 26 years, and I lost my mother to breast cancer. So that’s why we’re calling it “Gertie’s Pie of Hope.”
Letizia’s decided to make “Pizza for a Purpose” for breast cancer awareness. So they enlisted the help of their friend, Ken Tuccio, host of First Thing Fairfield County on 95.9 The FOX to help out:
I think everyone has a connection to breast cancer. So we wanted to do something through the month of October to raise some money – so they said to me. “Hey what do you want to make for a pizza” – which was kind of a dream come true for me. So me going back to my college days – I’m like “mac & cheese!”
It has five cheeses with a little bit of bacon and breadcrumbs on top – 100% of the proceeds go to benefit the American Cancer Society.
So far, they’ve raised $1,200 has been raised and have only been doing it for eight days. You can support the cause by buying a specialty pie at Letizia’s: 666 Main Ave #101, Norwalk, CT 06851
