Dump truck, 3 other cars involved in East Haven crash

EAST HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — A dump truck and three other cars were involved in an accident on Thursday afternoon in East Haven. It happened around 2:50 p.m. on Route 80.

Officials say one of the vehicles crossed into oncoming traffic in front of the oncoming dump truck. Officials say the two vehicles collided, causing the truck to roll over. Two of the operators went to the hospital.

Police closed Route 80 in both directions between Thompson Street and Gay Street, where the crash occurred. The route has since reopened.

The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection also responded as a large amount of fuel was spilled from the crash.

Police say DMV officials also responded to the scene because the dump truck was found to be in violation of several safety and equipment. The operator of the dump truck and the owner of the dump truck were cited at the scene.

Police are asking anyone with information on the incident to give them a call at 203-468-3820.
