NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH)–With the holiday season approaching, a New Haven man says he’s already caught multiple people stealing packages from his house on his home surveillance camera.
The thief allegedly stole the package at around 10 a.m. Saturday. In the video, you can see him survey the area, then quickly snatch the package and walk away. David Sullivan says he and his wife were home at the time. He thinks they were out back walking the dog.
“It’s a brazen thing to do,” said Sullivan. “He kind of sat down and looked around, made sure and then woo, kinda walked away.”
He got an alert from FedEx that the package had been delivered about 45 minutes later, but by that time it was already gone. This is not the first time they’ve had things stolen.
“Multiple times. FedEx, UPS. UPS even knows to deliver everything at the back door, so does FedEx in theory,” Sullivan said. “They didn’t today obviously it’s a Saturday, and there’s different drivers I know that. They haven’t called me back yet. It’s Saturday and they close around noon. By the time I got in touch with them it was probably about 12:01.”
David says they’ve lost several packages in the last few months alone adding up to hundreds of dollars of stuff. He says most of the time they get refunded.
With 72 days until Christmas and 59 days until Hanukkah, more packages will be landing on doorsteps soon.
Some tips to help keep your packages safe include using an Amazon Locker. Amazon has secure lockers that can accept deliveries. Locations in Connecticut include Milford, Middletown and West Hartford.
You can choose not to have items delivered to your home and instead choose to pick them up at UPS or FedEx facilities.
FedEx allows people to sign up for FedEx Manager. For a small fee you can designate delivery times and change delivery locations.
