Wallingford PD: 1 dead, 2 transported to hospital after crash

WALLINGFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — Wallingford police are investigating after a crash killed one person and sent two others to the hospital Sunday night.

According to authorities, the fatal crash happened at the corner of Northfield Road and Route 5 at 6:42 p.m. An investigation revealed that a 2016 Audi A3 Convertible had entered the intersection to negotiate a left hand turn from Northfield Road and collided with a 2012 Nissan Titan Pickup that was traveling northbound on South Colony Road

Police say the driver of the Audi, 90-year-old Edward Carabillo, of Darien, was killed in the crash. The front seat passenger in the Audi, 82-year-old Natalie Einson, was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Nissan, 69-year-old Ronald Bonito, of Wallingford, suffered minor injuries in the accident.

The area of Route 5 and Northfield Road was closed for the investigation but has since been reopened.

The accident remains under investigation. Any witnesses who may have seen this collision are urged to call Wallingford Police at 203-294-2817.
