(WTNH) — Social media is a place to share life moments and topical opinions. The power of this medium helps create a platform for various movements and encourages open conversations from the public. On Sunday, a new trend asking Facebook and Twitter users to publish a post or a tweet simply saying, “Me too.” took the sites by storm.

To show how common sexual harassment and assault is, stemming from the revealing news behind movie mogul Harvey Weinstein’s allegations, women are encouraged to post their personal experience or simply show unity by writing “Me too.”

The idea was originally from actress Alyssa Milano on Twitter resulting in over 13,000 retweets:

Many celebrities have participated in the cause and thousands of people have been opening up with their personal stories to show a unified front on the issue.
