Man arrested after hitting woman with car in North Haven

NORTH HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH)– A 39-year-old man was arrested on drunk driving charges after he allegedly hit a woman with his car in North Haven on Tuesday afternoon.

Police say at around 2:07 p.m., officers and EMS responded to the area of 1053 Hartford Turnpike for a pedestrian struck by a car. Upon arrival, they found a 47-year-old woman suffering from a visible head injury on the side of the road.

An investigation revealed that the driver, Joshua Pires, was traveling southbound on Hartford Turnpike when his car drifted to the right side of the road, where he struck the woman who was walking northbound towards her home.

Police say Pires was tested for impairment and subsequently arrested for operating under the influence, driving under suspension, failure to drive in proper lane and assault with a motor vehicle.

The victim is currently in stable condition at an area hospital.

The incident remains under investigation.
