Fire alarm briefly evacuates State Capitol

HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH)– The State Capitol was briefly evacuated in Hartford Thursday morning after a fire alarm went off.

The State Capitol Police tells News 8 that the building was evacuated due to a fire alarm going off at around 10:45 a.m.

The fire department responded to the Capitol building to investigate what caused the alarm.

News 8’s Mark Davis was on the scene where he learned that the fire alarm went off in the basement IT area. There were people working in the basement and a cloud of dust had tripped the alarms.

The fire department soon gave the all clear and everyone was able to return to inside the building.

Governor Malloy and his staff were among the evacuees as he is at the Capitol to hold a press conference.
