Reopening ceremony held for New Haven basketball court and athletic field

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — A reopening ceremony was held on Thursday morning for a newly rebuilt basketball court and athletic field at Winslow Augustine Field on Wilmot Road.

The basketball court was resurfaced as new nets and backboards were put in.

New Haven Mayor Toni Harp says these athletic fields are part of her push for teens in New Haven to have productive things to do.

“Any night you can go out to many of these courts and see dozens and dozens of people playing basketball,” said Becky Bombero from the Department of Parks, Recreation & Trees. “We have been running clinics for kids the last couple of weeks and are gearing up for middle school basketball.”

Work at Winslow Augustine Field is not done yet. A new pedestrian bridge will be put in so neighborhood kids can get there more easily.
