Gift Baskets 101

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) – Holiday season is almost here!  Maybe you’re going to a party, or have a gift to give, consider making your own gift basket. Chief basketologist Shirley George-Frazier, from says gift baskets can be used for any occasion: weddings, baby showers or any holiday.

When it comes to making your own gift basket, she says look around your home first.  As long as it has an opening, anything can be turned into a basket.
She transforms a coffee mug and even an old Halloween candy container into gift baskets.

When making your own, start by crumpling some paper, like a paper grocery sack, into the bottom.  This allows the items you will display inside to easily be seen and not sink down into the bottom of the basket. Next, add your items.  Choose things you know your guest will enjoy. Then fill in any holes with colored, shredded paper.
You can leave the basket as is or cover with cellophane and add a bow to close.
