One injured in New Haven shooting

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — New Haven police are investigating after a man was shot Sunday evening.

According to authorities, officers responded to the area of Bassett Street between Dixwell Avenue and Watson Street after they were alerted by the ShotsSpotter System of gunfire in the area.

Police say the victim, 21-year-old Willie Wiggins of New Haven, received a gunshot wound to his thigh in an apparent robbery of his cell phone.

Officials say Wiggins was taken to the hospital to treat a non-life threatening wound, he is in stable condition.

The New Haven Police Department is asking that anyone with information about this incident to call the detectives at 203-496-6304. They say calls can be made anonymously.
