Gales Ferry Library to remain open after public outcry

LEDYARD, Conn. (WTNH) — The book is no longer going to be closed on a small library in eastern Connecticut.

The Gales Ferry Library was slated to shut its doors by the end of next week amid the state budget crisis and loss of state funding to the town of Ledyard.

However, public outcry and a 99-year lease on the building which requires a library remain open in that location has changed that decision.

Hours will be reduced, however, and most of the 15 part-time library workers in town will be laid off to save money.
