Plainville shop pumping out costumes for all seasons

PLAINVILLE, Conn. (WTNH) — Halloween is just days away. That means you’re running out of time to get costumes, props, decorations and other supplies.

Luckily, one shop in Plainville is full of them, and Halloween isn’t the only holiday they do.

“Halloween is an interesting time because it’s the only time adults hire children to watch their children so they can go out and act like children,” explained Harvey Richard of Connecticut Stage and Movie Supply.

“Adults like to party,” he continued. “Halloween has become more of an adult holiday than kids’, so most of our direction, our costumes, are directed at adults.”

This business has deep roots in the community, providing costumes and more for decades.

“We’ve been here for 30 years. We started out just doing staging, theatrical lighting, sound,” he said. “We expanded into the Halloween business, costumes, props, wigs. We have a scene shop. We build scenery for schools, parties and special events.”

And the work doesn’t end when the trick or treating stops. Connecticut Stage and Movie Supply creates costumes for all occasions.

“As soon as Halloween is over, we jump right into Christmas,” Richard said. “We have probably over 125 Santa Claus costumes. We’re kind of an agent for Santa Claus. So that ends and then there’s New Year’s Eve parties. People always look for an excuse to party. Then we go into East we have over 100 Easter Bunny costumes.”
