Rocky Hill-Glastonbury ferry closed due to mechanical issues

ROCKY HILL, Conn. (WTNH) –The Rocky HillGlastonbury ferry will be closed until further notice, the Connecticut Department of Transportation announced on Thursday.

The ferry is having some mechanical issues, which were reported on Thursday morning.

The nation’s oldest continuously operating ferry service crosses the Connecticut River between Rocky Hill and Glastonbury. The original ferry, which dates back to 1655, was a small raft pushed across the river using long poles.

It usually runs from 6 a.m. to 6:45 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
