One dead in rollover crash on I-691 in Meriden

MERIDEN, Conn. (WTNH)–A New Haven man has died in a rollover crash on I-691 eastbound in Meriden. The crash happened around 8:40 a.m. on Saturday, off of exit 8.

Police said the vehicle veered off the road, went through the wire rope guardrail on the left shoulder, and rolled down an embankment off of the exit. The vehicle rolled over and finally came to a stop on its roof.

The driver was identified as 36-year-old Anthony Irias of Lomard Street in New Haven. He died as a result of his injuries.

No other vehicles were involved, and there were no other passengers in the car.

The off-ramp to Exit 8 was closed for a time.
