WATERTOWN, Conn. (WTNH)– A Watertown police officer was arrested Monday for allegedly stealing from a charity raffle at a golf tournament last month and then fighting the person who recorded it.

State Police say 26-year-old Officer Christopher Masayda was arrested after an investigation into a suspicious incident that occurred on October 6th when he was off duty at the Crestbrook Park Golf Course, at 834 Northfield Road.

Police say Masayda allegedly tampered with the raffle drawings at a police department sponsored charity golf tournament, and later stole a raffle prize which consisted of a watch and bracelet. The prize was donated by a local jeweler and valued at about $595.

Additionally, police say Masayda then got into a physical confrontation with the person who accused him of the theft and tried to take that person’s cell phone, which was used to record Masayda taking the items.

On Monday, Masayda was arrested and charged with larceny and breach of peace. He was released on a promise to appear.

Masayda will appear in court on November 20th.
