Enfield man dies in I-84 crash

MANCHESTER, Conn. (WTNH) — An Enfield man has died after crashing a car into a tree along Interstate 84 Monday night.

At 7:50 p.m., Connecticut State Police responded to Interstate 84 eastbound prior to exit 63 on reports of a crash. Upon arrival, Troopers located a single vehicle that collided with a tree.

The driver, 33-year-old Gilberto Rivera, of Enfield, was pronounced dead at the scene. Rivera was the only occupant of the car. No other vehicles were involved.

According to the preliminary information released by Connecticut State Police, Troopers believe that Rivera left the lane he was traveling in, crossed over the center median, and collided with the tree. The crash remains under investigation.
