Joseph Maturo wins re-election in East Haven mayoral race

EAST HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH)–Republican Joseph Maturo has won re-election in East Haven, in a close race against Democrat Salvatore Maltese.

Maturo received 3,649 votes (50.74%), to Maltese’s 3,543 (49.26%), with all seven precincts reporting. It was the second straight election in which Maturo closely defeated Maltese, who ran as a Democrat this year but had previously run as a Republican.

Maltese broke from the Republican party in 2014.

This will be Maturo’s ninth term as mayor of East Haven. He was last elected in 2015, serving from 1997 to 2007, and from 2011 to 2017.
