Inmate accused of trying to escape East Lyme prison

EAST LYME, Conn. (WTNH)–A prisoner is accused of trying to escape the York Correctional Institute in East Lyme.

The incident happened around 6 a.m. on Tuesday. Police said 24-year-old Caitlin Rancalli got out into the prison yard from the housing units where she was staying, and started climbing the fence.

Staff saw her, and she was detained without further incident.

Rancalli was processed and released back into prison. She is scheduled to appear in court in New London an November 7th.
