(ABC NEWS)– ‘Drink to your health’ is a common toast that perhaps should come with a caveat. Overdoing it may lead to cancer.
The American Society of Clinical Oncologists have released a statement urging drink lovers to watch their alcohol consumption. The research they cite is sobering.
Drinking is linked to 3.5 percent of all cancer deaths in the U.S., which is about 21,000 Americans every year. It’s a concerning link, but one that past research shows two out of three Americans are unaware.
People who engage in moderate to heavy drinking are at greater risk, and some studies have shown some potential benefits of an occasional drink. But next time you raise a glass or two, try not to turn it into three or four.
It’s a simple tip that could keep your cancer risk at bay.
