Blumenthal urges federal task force to study risks of crumb rubber

(WTNH)–The swirling debate over crumb rubber material used on athletic fields and playgrounds has the attention of Connecticut Senator Richard Blumenthal.

Blumenthal and his colleagues are urging a federal task force to finish the long-overdue study into potential health risks. Crumb rubber has been linked to serious health consequences, including cancer.

However, after a year and a half of studies, Senators are convinced progress has stalled.

Environmentalists have said they want communities throughout Connecticut to stop using crumb rubber until there’s more research done.
