Fire burns through multi-family home in New Haven

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — Fire officials are investigating a fire that broke out at a multi-family home in New Haven on Wednesday night.

Big, bright flames ravaged a home on Pierpont Street. First responders scrambled to dump water on the structure to keep flames from spreading to neighboring homes.

At one point, firefighters feared someone was trapped in the basement. Luckily, everyone made it out.

Some of the survivors were treated inside an ambulance. There has been no word on their injuries.

“At first we saw the fire in the second floor and it got worse,” explained eyewitness Mary Ruiz. “Then the third floor and we saw the wall coming out and then we saw fire spreading to the next house. We got scared.”

Firefighters do not believe this fire was suspicious.

Finally, there was some good news. A pet dog missing in the fire was found unhurt.
