NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — Giving locally on Giving Tuesday, a global day of giving held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving (in the US) to kick off the holiday giving season and inspire people to collaborate in improving their local communities.
The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven is a philanthropic institution that was established in 1928 as the community’s permanent charitable endowment.
For more than three generations, thousands of donors have built community endowment by establishing permanent funds or making gifts to existing funds that distribute grants to a broad variety of issues and organizations.
The Community Foundation awarded $21 million in grants and distributions in 2016 from an endowment of more than $530 million and comprising hundreds of individually named funds.
In addition to its grant-making, The Community Foundation helps build a stronger community by taking measures to improve student achievement, reduce New Haven’s infant mortality rate, and promote local philanthropy through.
The Foundation is hosting a Convening on November 29 entitled Preserving Our Values and Commitments: A Look at the Challenges of 2017 and How Our Community is Responding.
The event will take place at the New Haven Lawn Club, 193 Whitney Ave., New Haven from 5:00 pm – 7:30 pm.This event is part of a series of ongoing engagements with Foundation donors and the broader community about 2017’s challenges and opportunities.
