(WTNH) — It’s been a record year for holiday deliveries but unfortunately not all the gifts made it to their destinations.
20 million Americans say they’ve had a package taken off their front porch.
If you’re still looking for the perfect last minute present for someone, experts at Best Buy say you can stretch your loved ones’ dollar by giving the gift of security.
“I think everybody is really considering more of the smart technology. It’s become very simple, easy to use. Pretty much everyone has a smart phone in their pocket. All these devices will link right up to that,” said Pedro Melendez with Best Buy.
There’s everything from doorbell cameras to smart locks that enable delivery drivers safely place items inside your home, then the doors lock behind them. A hot gift item that ultimately leads to a peace of mind.
Safety is also something you want to keep in mind as you host.
The National Safety Council’s Maureen Vogel says it’s important to be aware of the holiday hazards before your party guests arrive.
“Clean out your medicine cabinets. If there are unused pills in there, those should not get into the wrong hands. And toys, your kids will probably get toys this year. There are small button batteries in there occasionally and you don’t want them to be swallowed. They’re fatal if they’re swallowed,” said Vogel.
Avoid heat sources by your tree and keeps the kids away from the kitchen as you cook.
“You also want to think about candles because those are up 12 percent in December,” she said.
Security is key as we kick off the celebrations to keep the family safe and last minute gifting a little easier.
