Number of people enrolled in health insurance in CT rises

(WTNH) — The number of people who recently enrolled for health insurance through Access Health CT is high than in previous years.

Lieutenant Governor Nancy Wyman and Access Health CT CEO Jim Wadleigh provided results on Monday from the exchange’s fifth open enrollment period.

More than 114,000 people signed up for coverage. That’s a 2.3% hike compared to last year.

“Ultimately…what it will do is for higher-cost individuals, the law of averages kick in and they mesh those together and ultimately it will bring down the cost of healthcare,” explained Wadleigh.

12% are new customers and 24% of enrollees are between the ages of 18 and 34. This is an age group that Access Health CT has been targeting.

During the seven week enrollment period, Access Health CT’s website had more than 220,000 visits.
