WCTX MyTV9 to Broadcast Upcoming UConn Men’s Hockey Games

(WTNH) — The University of Connecticut and WTNH News 8/WCTX MyTV9 have announced a partnership to broadcast live, two upcoming men’s hockey games throughout the state of Connecticut.

The Huskies’ match-ups with nationally ranked programs Providence on Thursday, January 18 and New Hampshire on Saturday, January 27 will be aired live on WTNH’s sister station, WCTX MyTV9.   UConn’s game against the Friars is set for a 7 pm start while the match-up with UNH is scheduled for 3:30 pm, both at the XL Center in downtown Hartford.

“Our program is excited to be starting a relationship with WTNH and MyTV9,” stated head coach Mike Cavanaugh. “Our fans throughout Connecticut will have the chance to watch us battle two nationally ranked teams in Providence and New Hampshire.  The opportunity for our program and players to be featured on television sets across our state provides an exciting spotlight for UConn hockey.”

“Partnering with UConn to air these upcoming games is a win for MyTV9, UConn and most of all, hockey fans across Connecticut,” said WTNH/WCTX Vice President & General Manager Rich Graziano. ”At WTNH and MyTV9, we are committed to show the fans of Connecticut more local high school and college games than they will find anywhere else.”

The Huskies made their debut on WCTX MyTV9 earlier this season, knocking off No. 16 nationally ranked Colgate, 4-2.

“I am thrilled that our friends at WTNH have plans to televise at least two additional UConn men’s hockey games this year,” director of athletics David Benedict said.  “Our team plays an exciting brand of hockey in the best conference in the country and television is a great vehicle for exposing our program statewide.  I think people will like what they see on MyTV9 and I know they would love experiencing the excitement of UConn hockey at the XL Center!”
