Torrington man allegedly sexually assaulted teen following online conversations

SHELTON, Conn. (WTNH) — A Torrington man is facing charges after police say he sexually assaulted a 17-year-old girl.

According to police, 45-year-old Christopher Galvin presented himself as a 22-year-old man in an online chat-room and began communicating with 13-year-old girl back in 2013.

Police say Galvin continued to communicate with the girl, developing a friendship which led up to an in-person encounter in February, 2017. Police say Galvin and the then 17-year-old were parked in his car when the victim fell asleep.

At that time, Galvin allegedly sexually assaulted the victim. Police say she then woke up and began to scream.

Officials say the victim filed a complaint to police in March, 2017.

Galvin allegedly attempted to justify his actions to the victim after learning of the complaint.

He was arrested on Jan. 16, 2018 and is facing charges of Sexual Assault in the 4th Degree and Harassment in the 2nd Degree.
