SOUTHINGTON, Conn. (WTNH) — A Middlefield man is facing a number of charges after officials say he operating a vehicle while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
According to police, on Thursday morning around 7:40 a.m., units responded to a rest area off of Interstate 84 in Southington.
Police say they located 32-year-old Edward Ortutay who appeared to be “distraught” while walking around the parking lot. Officials administered a field sobriety test which Ortutay allegedly failed.
Authorities say Ortutay was operating a vehicle while under the influence of drugs and or alcohol. A subsequent search of his vehicle allegedly led to the discovery of narcotics and other related items.
Ortutay was arrested and charged with Operating Under the Influence of Drugs/Alcohol, Possession with Intent to Sell Narcotics, and other related charges.
Officials say Ortutay also had an outstanding warrant out from the West Haven Police Department for aggravated assault charges.
He is scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
