Burglars using rocks, propane tanks to enter homes in Milford, Stratford

Police say there have been 23 forced burglaries in the last month all over Milford and Stratford.

MILFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — Surveillance video from a home on Rivercliff Drive in Milford shows a tall, thin man smashing glass to get into the home.  When he gets what he wants, he can then be seen leaving the home.  Milford Police say he gets into an older model, four door sedan.

Police say this is the 23rd time this has happened in about the last month, all over Milford and Stratford.  Police say what’s unique is the time of day the burglars are acting.

“It’s around dinner time, predominately 4-7PM, which is not typical for burglars,” Michael DeVito, Public Information Officer for Milford Police said.

Police say while nobody has been home at the time, these criminals are taking extreme measures to get inside the homes they’re targeting.

“They are using a large rock, like a boulder found at the scene and sometimes a propane tank to smash and gain entry in the rear of the house through a glass window and or door,” DeVito added.

Amanda Legere and her family live near Monday night’s burglary.

“I am really worried about my family and I am worried about my little baby,” Legere told News 8. “It’s really concerning – the situation. This neighborhood used to be really safe.”

Milford Police said whether you see them or not, they’re patrolling all parts of the city at all hours of the day.

“Uniformed patrols, unmarked patrols day and night all over the city,” DeVito said.

Police tell everyone to remain vigilant when arriving home from work and school and to call if anyone notices anything suspicious.
